The BJP on Tuesday indicated that it would look for allies after the results of the Jharkhand assembly were declared on Wednesday saying nobody was untouchable.
“Nobody is untouchable in politics,” state BJP president Raghuvar Das said.
“We have geared up for an absolute majority,” Mr. Das claimed when asked whether the party would reach out to others if the NDA failed to muster a majority.
A majority that had eluded the party in the 2005 polls, prompting it to seek support of independent MLAs.
The BJP secured power nine days after the then governor had installed Shibu Soren as chief minister of a loosely cobbled UPA alliance after the elections threw up a hung house.
Almost the same set of Independent MLAs dethroned the Arjun Munda-led NDA coalition and formed another UPA government led by Madhu Koda, who is now in judicial custody on corruption charges.
Mr. Koda’s wife, Geeta, contested from the Jagannathpur constituency from where Mr. Koda won twice, before being elevated to the Lok Sabha in the May general elections from the Singbhum seat.
