The Income Tax raids on the properties and premises of actors Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nayanthara revealed tax evasion to the tune of Rs 25 crore. The IT sleuths have also recovered Rs 2 crore cash and gold worth Rs 2 crore.
A senior Income Tax official told The Hindu , “We raided the offices and premises of ten people including actor Vijay, Samantha and Nayanthara and recovered cash and gold. We won’t be able to give the break up now but in total we have found Rs 2 core cash and gold worth Rs 2 crore,” he added.
The official further said, “What we found during the raid was all of them did pay tax but there was a partial evasion. They were not paying the full amount.”
According to the taxmen the financiers and producers have evaded this tax amount for last six years, the actresses for two years and actor Vijay for five years.
The Income Tax Department on Wednesday conducted surprise searches at the houses and offices of actors Vijay, Nayanthara and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. They also searched properties of producers Shibu Thameen and P T Selvakumar who made the movie Puli. Film financiers Madurai Anbu and Ramesh were also under the IT department scanner. The IT department raided 35 places in Chennai, Madurai, Cochin, Trivandrum and Hyderabad. The raid ended on Thursday night.
