Electric scooters of RideaBird are the latest attraction on the Beach Road. People can ride the scooters from Kali Temple to Victory at Sea Memorial from 3 pm to 11 pm. RideaBird is an initiative of Narva Technologies Solution, a city-based information technology company. The owner Pradeep Narava started this service after getting inspiration from a US-based company called Lime which was founded on the simple idea that all communities deserve access to smart, affordable mobility using e-scooters. The scooters can run 25 kilometres on a single charge and reach a maximum speed of 15 kilometre per hour. All riders should be over 18 years of age and ride with a helmet.
To access the scooter, you need to download the RideaBird application from the Google PlayStore. The signing-up process is based on a one-time password and happens in three clicks. After this, you can add cash to your account. The pricing for rides is ₹50 for 15 minutes, ₹95 for 30 minutes, ₹140 for 45 minutes and ₹185 for an hour. All you have to do is click on the ride button and scan the quick response code on the scooter to unlock the bike. To end the ride hit the stop button on the application. Keep in mind that the scooter will lock automatically once the cash balance runs out. And you will have to add cash to unlock and bring back the scooter back to Kali Temple.
After the scooter is unlocked, one can get on board. Place one leg on the front and use the other leg to get the scooter in motion. Once it’s in motion, you have to gently press the accelerator button. To slow down use breaks on the left.
Each day about 40 customers enjoy the rides on electronic scooters. Pradeep says, “We are on a trial period. After seeing the positive response we are planning to start RideaBird at other locations as well.” Currently, there are nine scooters on the Beach Road and the aim is to add 100 more across the city.
