Monaco meets Malhausi at India Couture Week 2019, courtesy Rahul Mishra

Inspired by his childhood summers at Uttar Pradesh's Malhausi village and the cobbled lanes of Monaco, designer Rahul Mishra's collection at the India Couture Week 2019 saw floral designs take center-stage. With bougainvillea and marigolds embroidered on to lehengas, saris and dresses, the collection is an extension of his Fall/Winter 2019 line showcased at the Paris Couture Week earlier this month.

Menswear included Nehru jackets and kurta-churidaars, embroidered with similar motifs. "For men and women, I don't see any difference in terms of the motifs used. It is a stereotype that a particular kind of silhouette is for men, and another for women," says Mishra. The collection, which features creations in organza, crepe and muga silks, is predominantly set in pastel shades and ivory with a splash of dark navy and gold.
