Here is another instance which shows animals are more loving than humans. Whil cafés that let pets in are few and far between, this pet café allows humans in, with no conditions. The Pet Café, the city’s first exclusive indoor pet café, permits humans to hangout as they wait for their pet to have fun. We are not sure if there is anything for humans to munch on, but they sure can keep themselves busy with some board games.
The Pet Café at Road No. 2, Banjara Hills, is for those who love pets, and even for those who don’t have any of their own but still want to spend quality with the furry beauties. A rescued dog named Bruno, a cat named Wonder and another cat named ‘dog’ will give you company and endless free cuddles. A cat named Dog? “I always wanted a cat with the name ‘Dog’ so I am living my dream. Dog responds to the name and as long as you love her and pet her, she doesn't mind by what name you call her,” laughs Deven Baheti, who set up the café with his cousin Shruti Darak. The Pet Café is off to a happy start. On day one, the duo was expecting 10 guests but were thrilled to see a final turnout of 50.
Deven’s love for animals began when he picked up an injured dog and gave it a home. His unquestionable love for animals grew to a point where he started getting calls from friends to rescue injured animals on the road. There came a time when he had more than 10 animals at home; he is more than glad that his family let him convert the ground floor of their house into a shelter.
Since then Deven had wanted to design a place for pets to hang out. Many cafés in Hyderabad do allow pets but this animal lover wanted to do something exclusive for pets. As of now, the place isn’t very big but is clutter free and safe for pets. Here cats are allowed to climb on tables, sleep on any couch and also use the scratch post of their choice. “Pet owners who understand their pets’ needs will come here,” says Deven.
Pet cafés and exclusive eateries for pets are a rage in the West. Such pet eateries have lavish menus with the choicest of ingredients. One can even modify the menu to suit the need and palate of their beloved pets. We are far from that.
While the dining options for the pets are limited at Deven’s The Pet Café, it does have some custom made cakes, ice creams and snacks to begin with. It’s early days yet, and they do have plans to tweak their menu and expand.
