Captain Iyer co-founded The Hijackers in 1969 and left to join the Indian army as a commissioned officer.

In 1981-82, he returned to musical life and did a number of shows across Kerala. He began promoting the band Highway Haze . In 1987 he founded 2B3C . From 1990 to 2004 Samy played with Exodus, a band that has been playing at Hotel Casino for 18 years now.

In 2016, Samy and his friends took a holiday to Nashville, Tennessee, the Mecca of country music. “Nashville has 24 hours of live music in a three kilometre stretch. There are rows of bars, restaurants and live bands,” said Samy. At one joint, he was introduced to a band and asked what he could do. “I can do Merle Haggard,” Samy replied, taking the American by surprise. Given a guitar and asked to perform, Samy sang three songs. He was even asked to join the band, an offer he had to refuse. “For an Indian singer to make it to the Nashville bands is a high. It was my finest hour,” says Samy.
