Badusha Naina has always been fond of dogs. It’s no surprise that he has established Positive K9, a dog training centre based on international dog training methods. The centre offers professional training for dogs and solves behaviour issues. It also provides day care, rehabilitation and boarding facilities.
Naina first visited the homes of dog lovers to offer training services when he was in class XII. At 18, he started taking his job seriously; he obtained a certificate of proficiency from an online platform.
“As a kid, I would watch YouTube videos on dog training and try out the instructions on my pets. I learned a lot by observing them,” says the 22-year-old.
The services at Positive K9 include a basic obedience pack — a set of nine commands at ₹8,000; an advance obedience pack at ₹16,000; protection and guarding methods and also special training for dog shows. Other services offered are behaviour therapy to calm down aggressive dogs.
“Mexican American trainer Caesar Millan and YouTuber Zak George are my biggest inspirations. Most of the methods I use are adopted from them. I too would like to have my own TV show on dog training one day,” says Naina.
He explains how every dog has three basic needs — that of the body, mind and heart. Naina insists on a compulsory walk of minimum 45 minutes a day. “Any kind of flavoured food is an absolute no for dogs as it causes hair fall, stomach and kidney-related problems,” he explains.
According to him, the simplest commands for a dog to follow are yes and no. The ‘sit pretty’ command, in which the dog sits with its hind legs and raises its front legs, usually take the longest time to master. When it comes to breeds, German Shepherds are the easiest to train and English Mastiff is the most challenging. Incidentally, an English Mastiff was the first dog Naina successfully trained.
Positive K9 is located at 10A Sriram Nagar, Malligai Street, Teppakulam. Call on 99432 56411 for details.
