I gave up driving to my work place and decided to use the bus to reach my place of work, even though the commute increases the time spent on travel by 30 minutes. Though I am forced to change two buses, it is not a bad proposition, considering that the both the routes had AC buses with good frequency. One day, the AC buses in one of the routes did not arrive at the specified time, forcing me to use the car half the way, park it on the roadside and take the second bus.

Though many people are ready to use public transport, factors such as delay in buses, distance from the bus stand to the house force many to opt for a private transport or depend on auto rickshaws.

To start with, parking facilities must be provided near bus stands. This help people who plan to use their private vehicles to cover half of the distance from home. Air conditioning, the look and feel of the bus, the comfort level also plays a role inbringing more people to travel by buses.

Buses at regular frequencies and which are not very heavily crowded would be a great way to travel hassle-free. If the bus takes more time than private transport, people may not prefer to use the services. If most of the factors are taken into consideration by transport authorities, then it would draw more people to use public transport.
