The Christian community turned out in good numbers at churches on Saturday night to attend special prayers and services, in the post-COVID scenario. The Great Easter Vigil at St. Mary’s Cathedral began at 11 p.m. with a special Easter liturgy, followed by candle lighting and the renewal of their baptismal vows.

After two years of the pandemic that impacted normal life substantially, churches across the city appear to be back to normal, with most of them witnessing a large turnout of devotees on Easter Sunday.

A special service was held in the early hours of Sunday at the Cathedral, with authorities making special arrangements outside for the convenience of devotees.

As elsewhere in the world, the holy day of Easter was celebrated with joy and pride by Christians across the central region, as one of the most auspicious days for the community. The celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ - according to the New Testament, Jesus died on the cross on Good Friday and rose to life three days later - Easter Sunday also marks the end of Lent, the 40-day period of fasting that began on Ash Wednesday.
