A slew of events took place at schools in Tamil Nadu this week, here’s a look at some of them

New student team at Alpha

Tiruchi: Alpha Group of Institutions held its investiture ceremony recently. The captains and vice-captains of the schools and various houses took charge on the occasion. Porchelvi, principal, Alpha Wisdom Vidyashram Senior Secondary School, administered the oath of office to the student leaders. M.P. Pandey, joint director of academics, Alpha Group of Institutions, John, deputy director, and Priscilla Rani, chief learning officer, were present on the occasion.

Carmel student leaders take oath 

Tiruchi: The investiture ceremony was held at Carmel’s group of schools on July 11. The correspondent L. Devadass Samuel honoured the Chief Guest Rev. Dr. Suresh Kumar.The Chief Guest honoured thse school captain Sharon Persis Devadass XII, Assistant school captain M. Sarika XI, School Secretary Avinash XII and captains of the four groups - Bluebells, Tulips, Pansy and Daffodils - with sashes and badges. The captains took the oath and gave a speech.

Spotlight on sports at Don Bosco

 Chennai: The 57th Annual Athletic Meet of Don Bosco, Egmore was held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The Chief Guest of the inaugural session Dr. A. X. Alexander IPS (retd.) took the salute as the School Pupil Leader led the school secretaries and the contingents in a march past.

The students put up displays like aerobics, and a blend of Jazz, Salsa, Hip Hop, folk and western fusion dance. The track events were held and and the Thomas House bagged the Championship. The Guest of Honour for the evening session was the cricketer Badrinath.

Eco Club of Lisieux Matric begins work

 Coimbatore: The Eco Club of Lisieux Mat Hr Sec School, Saibaba Colony for the year 2014 - 2015 was inaugurated by the Principal Rev Fr Philips Pontheckan.

The chief guest Dr K Asokans Zoo Director, V O C Zoological Park, Coimbatore gave a presentation on land and water pollution, followed by the special address of L. Krishnamurthy, Environment Activist on Terrace Garden Farming and vermicompost. Jalauluddin, President, Nature Conservation Society gave his presentation on conservation of trees. Saplings were given to the school toppers.

Kamaraj remembered at Mount Zion Matric 

Pudukottai: Education Development Day was celebrated at the Mount Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pudukottai. Jayabarathan Chelliah, correspondent, presided. Students spoke on the life and achievements of late Kamaraj in both English and Tamil. Students enacted a skit on ‘education development and Kamaraj’. Florence Jayabarathan, headmistress and Bharathi Raja, principal, spoke.

Perks students spread conservation awareness

 Coimbatore: In connection to “The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought” on June 17, the students of Perks Matriculation Higher Secondary School performed various outreach activities. They planted medicinal plants in front of their respective classes. This was followed by a drawing competition and quiz on Environmental Issues and finally, the students marched towards Trichy main road carrying various slogans on water and land conservation to promote public awareness.
