Three friends, and entrance coaching batchmates from Pala, Anu George, Dhanya Mathai and Meenu James, put their heads together and came up with a website that might help engineering and medical aspirants. They want to chart a course different from the traditional guide book experience when it comes to preparations for entrance exams, update and, in keeping with the times, make it a helpful virtual experience. Their website www.qppacket.com provides, as the name suggests, sample entrance exam question papers at the click of a mouse.

These question papers, Anu says, will supplement the training that they undergo at various coaching centres. The company Wizius was set up in 2011 and is being incubated at the Startup Village in Kalamaserry. The company’s aim is to provide online learning support to students. QP Packet is their first product. The website is a couple of months old, and is slowly gaining subscriptions. “The question papers are set by teachers who have years of experience in the field. And our focus is not only providing the solutions but also how these were reached. Certain question banks and papers only provide hints to the answers.”

Currently only Anu is based in Kochi; Dhanya and Meenu are in Pala.

The young women, all in their late 20s, were driven by an urge to do something in a field they are familiar with. And that led them to forming this company, Anu says. She has a B.Tech in biotechnology while Dhanya and Meenu have post-graduate degrees in computer application and computer science respectively.

The all-women team has got its network of friends, all women, to chip in with the proof reading of the material. “We want to ensure that everything that goes online is perfect and there are no errors,” Anu says.

She adds that the website has a bank of 15,000 questions, which have been set chapter-wise. The answers for which are provided once the question paper is attended. The user-friendly format, Anu says, can be accessed on smartphones also. Students attempting the question paper can opt to time themselves in order to get a real-time experience. Those opting for the packages in either of the streams — medical or engineering — can subscribe for the package at Rs. 800 for three months and Rs. 1,600 for a year. For those opting for both subjects, the package will cost Rs. 1,000 for three months and Rs. 2,000 for a year.
