A head brimming with florets. Pots growing out of trendily dressed mannequins' heads. Butterflies, giant tulips, a pretty white cycle with pristine flowers... It’s spring in full bloom at Phoenix Market City in Velachery.

The mall celebrates spring/summer not just with new collections but also with season-specific decorations all around. This could well be an opportunity for spring-starved Chennai to experience the colours and flora of the spell, albeit in paper and plastic. The courtyard has flower princesses (mannequins of course) stylishly posing in gowns made of flowers. Inside, a garden gazebo greets shoppers and mall rats. Little garden patches replete with green grass and vibrant flowers pop up at every corner of the mall. Umbrellas and baskets laden with pink, white, yellow, green and red buds delicately hang from the ceiling.

Adding to the visual splendour are miniature hot air balloons adorned with clusters of vibrant butterflies.

The idea to decorate the malls was conceptualised by Atul Ruia (owner of Phoenix Mills) along with Noel Vessaoker (centre director). All the Phoenix malls across the country have similar decor throughout this season. The installations and other elements were created in Mumbai and put together in Chennai. It took a week to get them all set up, say mall authorities. At this point, the place looks like a festive wonderland. As for the bargain sales? Well, barring a few stores, you will have to wait a couple of months for that.
