It's raining films!

There's so much film lovers can look forward to next year, for a lot of ace directors are gearing up to wield the megaphone. Director A.R. Murugadoss will direct actor Vijay. The film's music will be by Harris Jayaraj and cinematography by Santhosh Sivan. Murugadoss says they are working on the rest of the cast. Bharathiraja recently began the work for his much-anticipated project “Annakkodiyum Kodiveeranum” in his home town Theni, in the presence of biggies K. Balachander, Balu Mahendra and Mani Ratnam. Director-actor Ameer and Iniya will play the lead in the film that has music by G.V. Prakash Kumar. Mani Ratnam too is busy finalising the script for his next. Auditions are on full swing at his office, as he looks to rope in fresh faces.

Actor turns to direction

Actor Lakshmy Ramakrishnan known for playing mother to many actors in films now turns to direction. Says the actor: “Acting was just a fortunate accident; direction has always been my passion. When I got the opportunity to direct a short feature film, I grabbed it immediately. The 100-minute film is produced by A.V. Anoop for AVA Productions and co-produced by Monkey Creative Labs. The story revolves around a series of enthralling and amusing events that take place on a single day, but render revelations of a lifetime. It shows how a person from the lower income group — where awareness, tolerance and acceptance levels with regard to a person with a mental disorder is considerably low — puts up a brave front and fights for survival without losing her self-esteem.”

The cast includes Sampath, Jayaprakash, director Marimuthu, Raji Vijayasarathy and Uma Padmanabhan. Lakshmy Ramakrishnan's acting career began in 2008 with “Pirivom Sandhippom”, and has nearly 30 films together in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi to her credit.

No films, please!

She started just last year, but small-screen actor Mahalakashmi has already done 10 serials together in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. Her recent serials include “Chellamey” and “Aval” on Vijay TV. “I was approached for Radhika's ‘Arasi'. It began then, and there's been no looking back since.”

However, the big screen does not seem to interest her. “I've been approached to do films, but I had to refuse them,” says the actor who got married last April.
