It’s a blend of suspense, intrigue, love and friendship in under nine minutes. Four people with seemingly different lives reveal interconnected storylines as the movie progresses. With a feature film feel to the entire on-screen proceedings, Aduthu, written and directed by R. P. Shivakumar, is a short film that has a narrative that’s crisp and engaging.
“I have done some social awareness projects and short films before. I wanted to do a short film under ten minutes that would be like a feature film, and keep people engaged,” says Shivakumar, who made this short film in nine months. “The whole screenplay is non-linear. It’s called Aduthu because people should wonder what’s going to happen next; every moment should create suspense.”
Having been screened at the Indo-Russian Cinemas, Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Chennai, last month prior to its YouTube release, Aduthu is already getting positive reviews. “The response was really good. I’ve been getting feedback from other short filmmakers and film personalities too,” says Shivakumar. He adds, “I’m planning to do more such movies in different ways and explore different emotions. Short films help me learn the process, and hopefully, I will target the silver screen soon.
