Irrfan Khan, the brilliant actor who has films such as Maqbool , The Namesake and A Mighty Heart to his credit, will now be seen on the popular show “MTV Roadies”. In the seventh season of the show, the actor will grill the contestants in his inimitable style.
He talks about the show and his forthcoming films.
How has the journey been from television to films and now back to television?
It has been a long journey. I started with theatre and gradually moved to television. I did several serials such as ‘ Chandrakanta’ , ‘ Banegi Apni Baat’ and ‘ Sara Jahaan Hamara’ . These serials did well but I found the format boring. Then films happened. I am happy the way my career has shaped up. The idea of going back to television is not unexciting today. With all these reality shows on television, the actor doesn’t have to shoot for long hours and the audience also enjoys such shows.
Why did you decide to be part of ‘Roadies’?
‘Roadies’ is one of the few shows I watch on TV. I like the format of the show. It tests one’s physical and mental skills. But the main reason to be a part of the show is that I love travelling. You get to see different parts of the world. This time roadies will go to Africa.
What would be your role?
Mine is a small role. I am here to create havoc in the lives of the contestants (laughs). I will be someone whom all the contestants will hate. No one can guess the surprises I will offer. They are based on the seven deadly sins.
You are known as a serious and intense actor. Are you trying to break away from that image?
I don’t know why I am always associated with serious roles. I am not a serious guy in real life. I am consciously trying to break away from that image. I am an actor and I want to do all kinds of roles. I did comedy in Dil Kabaddi and I am hopeful that I’ll get to do more comic roles. I am doing lot of action in my latest movie Acid Factory . Now I want to do a romantic role. I don’t want the audience to form a certain image of me.
