Puneet Gupta's business card is as ornate as his designer invitations, with gold flecks and colourful floral patterns. And his space at Erum Ali Bridal Lounge on Khader Nawaz Khan Road showcases a startling variety of his creations.
Velvet, leather, satin, wood, metal, crystals and brocade are just some of the materials that go into a Gupta invite. “You won't find two-fold paper invites here. These are all personalised cards,” says the designer, who was recently in the city to launch ‘PG Studio'.
A colourful, abstract Ganesha holding a levitating orb adorns one gift box, while another is Swarovski-crystal studded with a wine casing and compartments for chocolates. Satin-printed card boxes are also part of the range. “Leather is an unusual option. It's the combination of so many things that makes the invites innovative,” he adds.
PG Studio also does invitations for anniversaries, birthdays, baby showers, fashion shows and other special occasions. “Since I was a child, I've been interested in art — I've done installations. I feel sad every time I see a boring or bad invitation card. When you're doing a theme party, an invite is the first impression. We make sure even the fonts match your mood,” says Gupta. “I use a lot of vintage patterns and vibrant hues. The design and colour should convey the celebratory mood.”
His Scandinavian range of wood invitations comes with elegant etching and in four natural shades. Gupta takes a month to deliver an order as even the smallest of details are looked into.
“The cards reflect individual tastes. There are some who like it ornate while others prefer it to be minimalistic. But it'salso trend-driven. For instance, citrus — shades of yellow or orange — is the rage this summer. But everything depends on your theme,” he says, adding, “Although we are based in Delhi, we get orders from people all over the South and opening a space here will make it easier for them. Though people here don't easily take to experiments, things are definitely changing.”
