More is good

About nine years ago, when I started blogging about technology and gadgets, people used to ask me for justification on why they should own more than one device. A single device had a single function.

The phone was most often the only instrument everyone used, and it was for calling and sending text messages. From then it moved on to dual SIM phones as everyone wanted to separate work calls from professional calls. Then laptops and tablets made an entry.

Now, thanks to extensive marketing practices, there has been an explosion of gadgets in the market. A lot of people say it is making them spend more, but I think it is good for the economy and for the infrastructure of the industry. With more access to internet, there is more knowledge for the customer.

In addition to this, the consumption pattern of consumers, especially youngsters, has changed drastically. Users are willing to invest in and use multiple devices. They look more at the features and functionality; they use sites like >fonearena.com to figure out the best option for themselves.

Parents, who are the ones making the actual investment, are also up to date when they buy their kids the gadgets they need. What they earlier considered wasteful, they now consider it as a good way to stay connected almost for free. For example, ever since WhatsApp became popular, there has been a marked fall in Facebook traffic in India, as friends can be connected instantly and constantly.

Youngsters are constantly experimenting with their gadgets. It has also become more of a style statement to own a certain number of gadgets even if there is no real necessity for them!

Of the eight to 10 million visitors on our site, most of them are not looking for reasons to buy a device; they are already aware of that. What they want is a justification for it.
