Admission woes

May and June are the cruellest months for college admission seekers. Not only do they have to deal with the disappointing Board exam results, unbelievably high cut-off’s, application procedures, competitive admission tests and low scores, they are also under constant pressure from parents. It is nothing short of a hair-raising ride.

When I was busy arranging my college application forms and documents, my mother recollected how stress-free her college admission procedure was. Back then, they targeted a particular course with reasonable fees at the nearest college. An undergraduate degree with a one year B.Ed. course was more than enough as teaching had been the most admirable profession those days. The studious aspired to become doctors, engineers and lawyers then. Majority of parents were unaware of the many career options. They only wanted their children to have a job with a stable income.

Times are different now. We wish to go to a career consultant to find the out a financially rewarding career. Ambition, interest, money and fame — all matters.
