Everyone wants to treat their taste buds to variety once in a while. In a city like Chennai, you never run out of places to go to. By far, one of the most authentic, unique and classic restaurants I've ever been to is the Sparky's Diner; authentic in its cuisine, unique in its ambience and a classic place to hang out at any time!
Truly American
With a wooden door that leads underground, this place is easy to overlook, unless you've been there before or are extremely observant. Once you are in there, it's hard to believe that you're still in India. With license plates, retro pop star posters and baseball bats adorning the walls, you almost feel like you are in the U.S.; even the glass tables have postcards and clippings underneath them for you to read!
After the ambience blows your breath away, the food doesn't fail to either. Run by Americans, the restaurant serves Mexican, Italian, Cajun and of course, American cuisines that are finger licking, or in this case, fork licking good!
Though the place doesn't have much of a choice for vegetarians, whatever they serve is the best in the city. Trust me I talk from experience.
Their a la carte is extremely good, nevertheless what keeps me running back to the place is their Friday night barbecue buffets that I simply can't get enough of. Priced affordably, there is a lot of variety to choose from. The desserts are the best part of the meal, so make sure you aren't already stuffed after the main course.
All in all, the Sparky's Diner is an ideal way to begin your weekend. However, you may come out feeling bloated if you don't watch what you eat. With every visit there, my tummy grows at least an extra two inches, yet, it is extremely satisfying. And oh, never trust a skinny chef!
