Movie: We are Family

Cast: Kajol, Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor

Director Siddharth Malhotra doesn't leave any stone unturned to ensure the success of his debut movie “We are family”. It's a balanced mixture of light comedy and lots of emotions. The only negative point is that you already know what's coming next. The movie entertains the viewers and keeps them stuck to their seats till the credits appear and lights are turned on because of its climax.

Plot

The movie revolves around the three main characters. Maya (Kajol) who's a perfect mother and is very protective of her children — Aleya (Aanchal Munjal), Ankush (Nominath Ginsberg) and Anjali (Diya Sonecha). Despite being divorced from her husband Aman (Arjun Rampal), Maya ensures that the family continues to remain a happy family unit. The movie takes a new turn when Aman introduces his girlfriend, Shreya (Kareena Kapoor), a career-oriented woman. Meanwhile, Maya is diagnosed with cervical cancer and circumstances bring the two women under the same roof. Can two mothers make a home? This forms the rest of the plot.

Performances

You expect “We Are Family” to be an out-and-out serious fare, but the director ensures that it doesn't come across as gloomy and serious thanks to the generous dose of light moments. The tense moments between Kajol and Kareena and also the cold stares they exchange have been captured very well. The gradual transformation in Kajol's looks from being an energetic woman to a pale and helpless mother fighting against her fate, is outstanding. The climax is the best part of the movie.

All credit, without doubt, goes to Kajol. She has performed well and delivers through her silence. Kareena excels yet again and her maturity is evident in this movie. Her scenes with the kids makes you roll with laughter, while Arjun continues his successful journey. The minus points are the songs. It will make one wonder if Shankar-Eshaan-Loy are really the ones who scored the music.

Bottomline: Dharma Productions doesn't fail to prove their worth with this movie, so it's worth a watch!
