For Girish Prabhu, an electronics engineer, music was an integral part of his life. After finishing engineering, he decided to pursue music full time. He was featured with a band mate as breakthrough artists in World Space in 2007 with their album, Zubaani .
Realising that performance alone will not be commercially viable, Girish launched his music academy that assured him of a regular income, even as he continued composing new songs.
Stringbow16 saw his band, Girish Prabhu Collective, launch their maiden album Lamhein , comprising ten songs, three of which are taken from Zubaani . “Each song is composed with a situation in mind which inspired the lyrics and melody,” says Girish.
The band includes lead singer Anusha Hegde, Tejas Yadav and Kenneth Rao and his students turned colleagues, Ashwin Nair and Suhas Gotla. “They now perform in the band and also teach at the academy,” says Girish. One of the songs, ‘Intezaar’ attempts to bring out the emotions of a person waiting for his partner while ‘Laadlee’ is a soothing melody of a mother putting her child to sleep. ‘Khote Khote Taal’ talks about corruption and the problems that small villages and semi-urban areas face. “The lyrics are driven by metaphors,” says Girish.
His fascination for heart-stirring melodies is pronounced in compositions such as ‘Na Jaana Kyun.’ The music festival also saw the students of his Ninth Chord Music Academy perform, their proficiency in rendition was striking and effortless. It also had an exhibition of the handmade Doppler guitars produced by Girish and his team. The guitars are custom designed. “It took us two years to perfect the quality delivered with international standards in terms of sound, aesthetics and finish,” says Girish.
