Summer comes with the juicy aroma of mangoes. But for all those craving for a slice of the King of Fruits this summer, the wait has been never-ending. While the mangoes arrived in the market late, the ones which have come are nothing close to the seasonal ripe sweet ones, much to the disappointment of diehard mango aficionados. To combat the blues, we’ve got a delectable solution.

Here’s a lowdown on some yummy alternatives to taste the royal fruit for real. A dig into a scoop of mango ice-cream can give enough energy to the sapped spirits to beat the heat of summer.

Though mango ice-cream is available throughout the year but it is the most relished during this season. Starting this month, till the end of June, some popular ice cream stores in the city are dishing out the iconic seasonal flavour, all with one thing in common — mangoes.

Exotic variety

Although it serves mango ice-cream throughout the year, but during summer the seasonal mango concepts are a big hit. Scooping up a happy dose of your favourite ice-cream is always a treat, but topping it with juicy mangoes makes it even more special. The seasonal concepts introduced here are Mr. Alphanso and Twisted Mango.

One of the most expensive varieties of mangoes mainly grown in the western parts of India, Alphanso has a flavour that makes it beyond doubt the queen of mangoes. Cream Stone’s Mr. Alphanso gives a blend of fresh hand picked Alphanso mango with ice-cream. ' A bite into this divinely delicious dessert will tell you why this variety of mango is the most sought after, not just in India but also abroad. The Twisted Mango flavour is a blend of mango and pineapple ice cream with a mix of cut pieces of pineapple and mango.

Local flavour

Ice Age offers the seasonal special in a different way. Its offering ‘Go-Man-Go’ gives scoops of fresh mango ice-cream topped with fresh pieces of mangoes, mango pulp and mango syrup.

The mangoes used in the ice- cream are the local varieties. After the summer months, the fresh mango pieces are replaced with mango jelly to give a near-perfect flavour. You can also try the refreshing Simpsons Season mango shake here.

Coming soon

Although mango flavoured sundaes find a mention in the menu here, the store is yet to start its seasonal special ‘Mango King’ due to shortage of good quality mango supplies in the local markets. However, in the coming weeks, the flavour will be available. This apart, their flagship flavour ‘Jack Frost Special’ serves with a generous scoop of mango ice cream mixed with chocolate, vanilla, honey and nuts.
