What you need:

Sundaikai vathal (dried): Three-fourth cup

Thoor dal: One cup

Pepper and jeera: One Tsp each

Aesofetida and dried ginger: One pinch each

Curry leaves: Few

Salt: To taste

Cooking instructions:

Fry all the ingredients on low flame without oil for about two minutes. Remove from pan and allow to cool. Then grind everything together into a coarse powder. Add two or three spoons of the powder to steaming white rice and some ghee or gingelly oil to add flavour. The mix is a great option for those with loss of appetite and diabetes.

Sathya Ramachandran is a home maker who specialises in everything sweet. Gardening is her other favourite hobby. My grandmother taught my mother this recipe that disguises Sundaikai's bitter taste giving it an interesting taste. The mix is full of healing properties.
