The fit and suave model-cum-actor, Milind Soman, was recently in town to announce the launch of the second edition of Pinkathon, a marathon exclusively for women. It aimed at spreading awareness about breast cancer and promote general fitness and health among women.

About the marathon, Milind says, “In our country, women tend to put their families before themselves and neglect their own health. Women have the power to influence others for a stronger and healthier society. We need to invest in our women and make them healthier for a better tomorrow. Pinkathon encourages women to focus on their health and in turn, influence others around to stay healthy.”

A fitness enthusiast himself, Milind doesn’t believe in the necessity of gyms for a healthy body. He begins his day early with a long round of jogging. He prefers fruits to kickstart his day.

“I love papayas and bananas and eat them everyday. Also I like to eat seasonal fruits like mangoes, oranges. I eat around four kgs of fruits before noon! Also, I avoid white sugar. Refined sugar is poison to the body; instead I consume jaggery or honey.”

Contrary to popular assumptions, Milind doesn’t follow a fitness regime. “The best way to stay healthy is to remain active all the time. People who gym for two hours everyday and then sit for eight hours lose the effects of gymming. Even if someone has to work eight hours sitting, they should make sure they take a walk every 15-20mins. This will, in fact, keep them energised and enhance their productivity. Maintaining health is a conscious effort. Using stairs and walking more often are to be instilled in ones’ mind. Running and walking are exercises that do not require any infrastructure and are extremely beneficial for staying healthy.”

Along with his physical health, Milind also believes in maintaining a healthy mental attitude. He says: “Having a healthy mind is an extremely important discipline necessary to lead a good life. You have to try hard to see the positivity and favourable opportunities in whatever you do and work to make the situation better. It keeps you motivated and strong.”

Pinkathon is now spread across six cities and has received tremendous response in the form of participation from women from all walks of life. This year, Pinkathon’s final run is scheduled on September 14th at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the Capital.
