It’s the end of a long, stressful work week. You’re frazzled, hassled and tense. You’ve watched deadlines whoosh past you, been pulled up by your boss, gotten into a fight with your significant other and developed a terrible migraine. All you want to do is bury yourself under a nice fluffy quilt, lose yourself in a tub of strawberry ice-cream, flip through a trashy novel (or maybe an American sitcom) and shut the world out.

Or perhaps you can head to the new Thai Refresh Spa.

Located on 100 ft road, Indirangar, the Spa is a haven of peace in an otherwise bustling city. Serenity engulfs you like a shroud when you enter it. A water fountain emanating from the face of a placid Buddha fills the lobby with the gentle tinkle of water. The potted plants, dim lighting, plush furnishing, wooden flooring and stone walls enhance the general atmosphere of luxury and serenity. A smiling girl offers me a welcome drink of fresh lime juice and asks me to change my sturdy outdoor shoes into soft padded slippers.

The key services offered include the Signature Massage, the Traditional Thai Massage, the Hot-stone Therapy, the Deep Tissue Massage, the Balinese Massage and the Swedish massage. I chose the Thai Refresh Signature Massage which combines a Balinese massage with a deep tissue one and finishes with a long soak in the Jacuzzi.

I am introduced to my masseuse Rosy, a tiny sylph of a girl with limpid eyes and a cheery smile who must certainly outweigh me by at least fifteen kilos. I am a little sceptical at first—she looks too small to be able to really handle me. I slip out of clothes, don a pristine white bathrobe and lie tummy down on the massage table, feeling rather silly.

We start with a dry massage. Tiny though she is, Rosy is extremely strong and well-trained and manages to soon put me at ease and dispel my scepticism. She applies the right amount of pressure, stretching muscles and easing out knots and aches and I surrender completely to her capable hands.

She then proceed to slather me with massage oil and rubs it firmly into my skin, stretching and kneading it and placing extra pressure on certain acupressure points.

The room is temperature controlled, soothing music plays in the background, a gentle whiff of scented oil pervades it. Drowsiness descends on me and I drift off to sleep while she continues to work on me for nearly two hours.

After the massage, I am bundled into the Jacuzzi where I proceed to lie back and allow jets of water to wash over me. My body is limp, my muscles are loose and I feel terribly pampered but am too sleepy to move.

I manage to wash off the oil and stagger back home where I fall into a ten-hour deep slumber, one of the best I’ve ever had in my life.

The Spa is located on 100 Feet Rd, Indira Nagar. Call 09902365365
