Aanchal Kumar, 32
Started modelling as a 17-year-old in 2001.
Daily routine
I like waking up early and doing yoga. Then, I do a bunch of chores, hit the gym thrice a week, swim twice a week and lounge.
Most hectic fashion event?
Fashion weeks. There are back-to-back shows — I end up doing three to four a day. In between those I read, listen to music and try and get some shut eye.
What do you love and hate about your job?
I love meeting interesting and glamorous people. The big names from the industry are inspiring. I get to travel a lot. It’s not a nine-to-five job and I can choose when I want to work and when I don’t. On the flip side, it’s a physically demanding job — we are on high heels most of the time.
Beauty and diet regimen
I visit my dermatologist once a month and go for clean-ups. Never sleep with makeup on. Luckily, I don’t have a sweet tooth. I’ve replaced rice with brown rice and even rotis are made of brown rice flour. I have five small meals a day and like tossing up my own salad. I eat fish five times a week.
Cheat meal
I am a Punjabi so I love my parathas with white butter.
How do you unwind?
Watch a good move. Hang out with friends with a glass of wine or two.
A misconception about models that you hear a lot.
Models don’t eat anything. Of course we eat ( laughs ).
Candice Pinto, 33
Started modelling in 2001 as an 18-year-old.
Daily routine
Life is easier when I travel. When I am back in the city I have errands to run and drive in Mumbai traffic. My day begins at 9 a.m. and ends by 2 a.m.
Most hectic fashion event.
It really depends on what event or what brand or designer you’re walking for.
What do you love and hate about your job?
I love that I am passionate about what I do. It’s long hours and not easy money.
Beauty and diet regimen
I try and work out as much as I can and go for a swim. I eat whatever I get. During fashion weeks my diet is more controlled and I socialise little less then.
Cheat meal
Desserts. Actually all meals are cheat meals ( laughs ).
How do you unwind?
Watch a movie and do nothing. I love being home.
A misconception about models that you hear a lot.
People think it’s an easy job and all we do is walk around dressed up. We actually work more than 12 hours.
Ujjwala Raut, 37
Started modelling in 1996 as a 17-year-old.
Daily routine
I have a 10-year-old daughter. A lot of things revolve around her. My day starts at 6.30 a.m. if I’m not shooting. After I drop her in school, I go for yoga. I have a light breakfast and lunch. If I’m shooting, I come home and get back to being a mother. I love to get to bed by 10.30 but it’s a luxury.
Most hectic fashion event
Things are not hectic unless you make it hectic. I have so many years of experience, nothing bothers me. It’s more fun when it’s even more hectic.
What do you love and hate about your job?
I love the glamour, the way you’re taken care of, travel and working with talented people. I made my life, career and name with this profession. I have nothing bad to say.
Beauty and diet regimen
I wear minimal make up and keep my skin clean. I drink raw vegetable juices as they are the best cleansers. I moisturise and use an SPF. I eat everything right from sugary muesli and cereals to omelettes. I have to constantly eat because I have high metabolism and lose weight fast. I don’t drink or smoke. I eat desserts and if I think I have a little paunch coming on, I go for a run.
Cheat meal
I am the worst person to go out for lunches and dinners with. I don’t have too many girl friends who want to go out with me. I just have one and thank god she eats a lot. The only person I can eat all the time with.
How do you unwind?
I begin with washing my face and taking a shower; watching TV or reading a book.
A misconception about models that you hear a lot.
I often hear things like ‘You cannot have a child and a career’. I have a daughter and I am still rocking.
