Party all night

December is almost here, and while that means the holidays are upon us, it also means the party season is nearly here.

So, here are a few regular and not-so-regular tricks that will help you look your best this party season.

Keeping that make-up on all night long

Primers — I love them. Honestly, if you’re a regular make-up wearer, you’d know the woes of trying to keep your make-up on, with minimal fading, while keeping the oils at bay. It can be difficult, and let’s face it, rather expensive. I’d ask you to carry blotting paper and blot away the excess oils before you touch up — preferably with a loose powder, as they are more finely milled and less likely to settle into lines and pores. This way, there is no moisture on your face to cake up the make-up.

Another trick (one I’ve been doing for a while now and I’m still amazed at the results) is using the Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm for men as a primer. It’s been doing the rounds on YouTube, and having tried it, I can safely say it has replaced my other primers. When I use this, I find my make-up looking pretty fresh even after a good 10 hours, which is more than any actual primer has done for me.

Get bold lip-ready

Holiday season also means it’s time to for bright lips. I personally favour deeper reds and berries in matte formulations, as they last longer and instantly glam up any look. Before you put on your favourite lipstick though, remember to prep those lips. A mix of honey and brown sugar works as a great scrub to get rid of dry flaky bits on your lips (it’s also really tasty), but if you need something a bit more hardcore, an old toothbrush (make sure it’s soft) with some honey to gently brush away the dry skin also works wonders. The honey works as an effective lip conditioner and leaves your lips soft and ready for any lipstick you may choose.

For those last-minute blemishes

Eyedrops. Probably the best make-up trick I have ever discovered. For someone all too familiar with waking up in the morning with a bright red pimple on my cheek, eye drops have been my absolute saviour. One little drop on the blemish reduces the redness and the inflammation around it, so you can (gently) cover it with as little product as possible.

Eyedrops also work miraculously in transforming that shiny eyeshadow into a glittery foiled one — try it.

So, a little disclaimer... like clothes, make-up and skincare are very subjective. What works for some may not always work for others, so a little trial and error is always a part of the game.
