The new selling point

Holiday season and festive occasions are the best time to set up pop-up shops, temporary selling spaces. They could be at street corners, airports and shopping centres. For the past few years, these shops have been driving the global retail industry. Chennai, too, has woken up to this innovative concept, with quite a few individuals jumping into the pop-up bandwagon.

Pavithra Sagar and Nikita Kapoor of Funky Fish are ready with their desi pop edition to be held at Art Houz on October 9 and 10.

“We were delighted with the response to our earlier pop-up initiatives and decided to come up with a third one that would focus on desi styles and trends,” says Pavithra.

The designers, whose creations will make up Funky Fish’s exhibit this time, include Sonali Gupta, Roshni Chopra, Bhumika Sharma, Saumya & Bhavini Modi and Valliyan by Nitya Arora. Besides specially curated prêt lines, upmarket jewellery, shoes and home décor will also be available at the show. To add fun to the experience, Funky Fish will put up food stalls and a photo booth. “Our pop-up shops are not just about shopping; they are more a location for an outing with friends and family,” adds Pavithra, who has majored in bio-technology. Nikita, after specialising in online fashion marketing in the U.K., worked briefly at Stella McCartney in London and Grazia in Mumbai.

“Though not designers, we love the feel of fabric and the joy of putting together different looks by teaming outfits with perfect jewellery and footwear,” smiles Pavithra.
