Due to its proximity to Delhi and the presence of big multi-national companies, Gurgaon has by accident or design become a haven for industrial houses. To give those, running the affairs of these companies right from chief executive officers to the junior most employees, a space where they can rewind, relax and even conduct business in tranquil environs, Hyatt Hotels and Resorts recently launched a 176-room hotel at Udyog Vihar recently.

Hyatt Place Gurgaon Udyog Vihar has been set up to encourage employees of the MNCs and Indian companies to stay in the hotel where rooms are available at economical rates, free use of Wi-Fi to enable them to stay connected with their clientele and office, conference rooms where the corporate sector guys can confabulate, create a blueprint and strategise their expansion plans without intrusion into their privacy. It is also targeted towards multitasking travellers. And most importantly, there are no distractions. So no boisterous discotheques, weekly or monthly cultural extravaganzas and modern spas which are a must in a leisure hotel targeted for families.

Before constructing the sprawling hotel, boasting a round-the-clock gym and modern amenities but minimalist furnishing, the Hyatt group of hotels surveyed the Udyog Vihar area and came to the conclusion that the lower level employees dream of staying in four-star or five-star hotels but affordability was a big deterrence for them. So it was ensured that the price of rooms did not make it unaffordable for them. This was done to make the hotel accessible for accommodation for corporate honchos as well as those working under them.

Concurring this fact, Sumit Kumar, general manager, Hyatt Place, says, “Gurgaon has seen tremendous development over the past eight to nine years. But there is lack of inventory in the market. So an upscale segment space was required; the gap needed to be filled. We want bigger volume. Before entering the market, we surveyed the market. Udyog Vihar is witnessing phenomenal development like UNITECH Park, businesses are flourishing. Now that Hyatt has been launched, we are sending our sales teams to bring customers who are staying within a radius of five kms.”

Since, the hotel attracts foreigners, mainly Americans, Europeans and West Asians, a round-the-clock restaurant serves beef steaks and tenderloin burgers. Cooked by expert chefs, who specialise in preparing them, the steaks andthe burgers are available any time of the day.

Seeing my famished look, the chef suggested that a steak would just be right for me. As one got down to eating it, one realised that the meat was a tad too chewy. A ready to please restaurant guy, standing near by, recommended that I need to try tenderloin burger where the minced meat patty is cooked to perfection. “I can give the burger in the evening as a snack. You would relish every bit of it as it is cooked to perfection,” he said.

Every bite of the big juicy burger was gratifying as one had it during tea time. Energised, one decided to burn calories in the gym. After using the room card, one entered the room to be greeted with a range of dumbbells of varying weights, two state of the art treadmills, commensurate number of cross trainers and cycles. After doing biceps and chest exercises for 15 minutes, one turned towards the swimming pool, built on the terrace facing the gym, which had no takers as the wintry weather had made the water unbearably cold.

Unlike hotels in Delhi, this one only allows genuine residents to use the lift. So after entering the lift one has to put one’s room card on the machine to make the lift functional. Similarly, one has to use the card for entering the gym or swimming pool.

And safety does not seem to be a problem here. “Right from the beginning, we have kept safety of our guests paramount in all our hotels. We have used the expensive bollard system, installed machines in the lift, gym and swimming pool to ensure that only legitimate guests use them,” says Sumit Kumar.
