Evolving format

Parnab Mukherjee has a way with students, in this case the Ivy League Academy in Hyderabad, and prefers the tag of an alternative theatre director to that of a drama teacher. He doesn't remove his hat of political consciousness while writing his plays and his experience as a journalist comes in handy. He casts young adults who can be themselves than merely act out a script. “I prefer students who are willing to debate,” he says. Each enactment of a play is different from another. “Ninety per cent of my plays are rehearsed and 10 per cent is open for change, to accommodate that day's headlines,” he explains.
