Kiara loves her new name, her co-stars, her debut film and, obviously, her character in it. Born Alia Advani, she was renamed Kiara for Bollywood Fugly . What’s most interesting is that she was renamed by none other than Salman Khan. For now, Kiara is only looking forward to the release of their debut movie Fugly . Kiara had set her sights on acting long ago but had to wait till she graduated since her parents insisted she complete her studies.
However she likes to point out that opportunities didn’t land in her kitty ‘just like that.’ She did prepare to face the camera, with some training under Roshan Taneja and Anupam Kher. In the role of Devi in the movie, she plays someone who is absolutely opposite her real life character. Playing a tomboy in Fugly was an attempt to create a different her, she says. “I am very girlie and love doing girlie things.”
Kiara however thanks her aunt for recommending her to the director when he said he was in the lookout for a new face. “That’s how I landed up auditioning for it.”
The audition however did give her anxious moments. “I was given a script for the audition. I was impressed. Also, the character being a performance-oriented one, I couldn’t imagine a better debut for myself. So for my audition, I gave it my best shot, complete with dressing for the character. The only thought I had was that — by hook or by crook — I need to grab that role,” she recollects.
So she did and ended up being the one who was most teased by the boys. Being the only girl amongst three boys was fun, but “for a long time, they called me South Bombay,” she laughs.Talking about the experience of shooting for Fugly , Kiara says it was fun throughout and a learning experience with the three boys.
