The countdown for the Diwali festivity began on a positive note for a group of underprivileged children, living in Surajmal Vihar of East Delhi, as they recently got an opportunity to express their creativity on canvas in a day-long exhibition at the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
Tripti Jain, a local resident of Surajmal Vihar, took the initiative to promote their talent for paintings. And to see to it that with each painting wish of every child got fulfilled.
Elaborating on the uniqueness of this exhibition, Tripati said: “The main concept of the exhibition was to fulfil the wish of children who cannot afford basic necessities. Once the buyer fulfils the wish of a particular child then only painting is to be delivered at his/her home.”
Children wrote wishes on the paintings for their parents. For instance, Khushboo has written a wish of a sari for her mother. Similarly, another child asked for a bag for his father.
Prompted by a desire to learn new skills and enhance her existing ones, Muskaan wished to attend a two-day paper quilling workshop. These amateur painters either learnt the skill from Tripti Jain or have inborn talent.
Explaining how interest in organising an exhibition for a noble cause developed, Tripati said interacting with marginalised children motivated her to take up the initiative. Therefore, she collaborated with various NGOs which eagerly decided to rope in six artistic children who can showcase their talent.
Thirty young artists participated in the exhibition.
