From the horse’s mouth

Whether it’s news or counting teeth, you are on the right track if it’s from the horse’s mouth.

It is a hectic day in school! Suddenly, you hear Meena spring out the most pleasing news to your ears. “There’s a rumour that tomorrow is a holiday!” she says. “But I won’t believe it until I get it straight from the horse’s mouth,” she adds. The news surely lifts your spirits; but it leaves you wondering, “Which is this horse that knows all about school holidays?”

When you get information straight from the horse’s mouth , you are getting it from someone who is most directly involved in it or best informed about it, thus making it most credible, trust worthy and reliable — in the above case, from the school authorities.

So, why look into a horse’s mouth for facts? Sounds sickening?

Well, relax…If you are ever going to buy a horse and need to confirm its age, just open the animal’s mouth, stick your head inside and check the teeth! The teeth can give you an idea of its age. Bravo! You got its age right! ‘Cos you get it straight from the horse’s mouth !
