TheP.V.K. Rao Memorial Kumar Concept School at Kothuru in Nuzvid mandal of Krishna district celebrated National Integration Day.

Competitions were conducted in essay writing, elocution and drawing on the theme of National Integration. Addressing the students, Principal P.V. Kumar underscored the need for unity. This was followed by a debate by the students of Std. X.

S. Shalini, M. Navya and Md. Tanzeem of St. John's Public School bagged gold medals in the “team kata” section of the A.P. State Karate – Do/Kung-Fu Open Championship 2011 held recently at Guntur. In “Kumite” category, K. Bhargav secured a silver medal. The school correspondent Suman Tyagaraj and Principal Rama Bharathi complimented the winners and their coach Abdul Khader.

The 19th district-level National Children's Science Congress held on the theme of “Natural Resources” for students of 10-17 age group at the Regional Science Centre of AP State Council of Science and Technology (APCOST) evoked good response. Of the total 263 projects presented, 10 were selected for State-level competition. Those who qualified for the State-level contest are: G. Ramprasad of B.V.S.R. Municipal Corporation High School, Kandrika, B. Suvendu of Delhi Public School, Vijayawada, V. Parthasarathi of Sri Arthur Cotton High School, Vijayawada, M. Naga Umasankar of Challapalli Public School, L. Prasanna of A.K.T.P. Municipal Corporation High School, Vijayawada, D. Kalyan Babu of Zilla Parishad High School, Ramagundem, S. Lakshmi Janki of S.T.V.R. Municipal Corporation High School, Durgapuram, Venu of Little Birds High School, T. Madhu Priya of Vision High School, Thiruvuru, and T. Venkata Ramana of M.P. Upper Primary School at Madicherla.

Students of Bhashyam Little Champs at Gayathrinagar , along with their teachers, visited a temple, church and a mosque and several other places to understand the significance of the “National Integration Day.” Principal Kavitha Lakshmi said children must befriend everyone, rising above caste, creed and religion.

Students of 48 schools in the city participated in an essay writing and a drawing competitions, organised by the Ground Water Department as part of the State-sponsored “Jalam Badi” programme, at Nalanda Vidya Niketan . Addressing the students, deputy director of Engineering Department Varaprasad Rao, said the main intention of the department was to inculcate a sense of responsibility among children towards water conservation.
