Children the world over have a fascination for trains and some even nurture the desire to be an “engine driver” at some point of time.
A model of a railway zone complete with tracks, moving trains, signalling systems, forests, rivers, bridges, and heritage monuments in the area has been recreated at the heritage gallery of the Mysore Railway Station and is said to be the first of its kind in a railway station in India.
Built on a 200 sq ft board, it showcases the beautiful structure of the Mysore railway station, tracks with a few trains positioned on it.
Miniature models of important and historical landmarks of Mysore have been carefully built and this includes the Mysore Palace, Lalitha Mahal Palace, Krishna Raja Sagar [KRS] dam and Brindavan Gardens, St.Philomena's Church, Chamundi Hills, Zoo, Clock Tower, a few well-known buildings of the city and others.
Works too
About half a kilometre of tracks has been laid on the model and six miniature trains including the miniature Golden Chariot run along the tracks. Besides, 2000 trees have been shown along with roads and underpasses.
A working model of a freight train (goods train) hauling minerals at Chitradurga is also on display.
About 500 LED lights will light up the entire model creating day and night effect and will be operated by the curator or staff in charge of the heritage gallery.
