Life for a Queen is not as easy as it seems or hunky dory as we hear. This is the story of, a tenth-century queen of Kashmir, the beautiful and intelligent princess Didda of Lohara. Despised by her father because she is lame, she survives because the astrologers predict a great destiny for her. Didda’s childhood is miserable and her future, bleak. When she is married off to the dissolute ruler of Kashmira, she must learn to hold her own in a court ridden with factions and conspiracies. But Didda is no ordinary queen. Ruthless and ambitious, she wants to rewrite history. Will she succeed?
About the Author
Devika Rangachari has won several awards for her children’s writing. Her book, Growing Up (Children’s Book Trust, 2000) was on the Honour List of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) in 2002. Her other books include The Merry Mischief of Gopal Bhand and The Wit of Tenali Raman . Devika helps to run the Children’s Book Forum at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. She is currently engaged in post-doctoral research in Indian history.
