Sumi was describing her visit to the restaurant, in front of her class. She said, “I decided what to order and tried to catch the waiter’s eye.”

On hearing this, Meera cried in horror, “Why in the world did you try to catch the waiter’s eye?” There was an uproar of laughter in the class.

Eye to eye

To catch somebody’s eye means to get someone’s attention especially by looking at them or by making eye-contact with them.

Eg: Ravi caught Mona’s eye and beckoned her to follow him.

A sudden movement caught her eye .

There were lots of dresses to choose from, but none of them really caught my eye .
