The ladies have been sitting on the lawn for hours, just shooting the breeze .

The boys just stood around, shooting the breeze .

We all know that a breeze is a light wind, but at least a few of you would have wondered what the ladies and boys were up to.

Well, shoot the breeze is an idiom which means to chat idly, without any purpose. The expression comes from the old West, when cowboys would fire into the air at nothing, just for fun! These days shoot the breeze has nothing to do with shooting guns! It only means to spend time chit-chatting.

So, now, won’t you agree with me when I say, “Nothing to beat an evening, shooting the breeze with friends, on the beach!”
