History of colour

The history of colour is very interesting. Colour has been used in paintings since early Egyptian times. The Egyptians were the first people to use the colour blue. It fact, these paintings are seen even today inside the pyramids with colour intact.

In Rome, purple was the colour of royalty. The Roman Emperors had every single robe they owned dyed purple. This rich purple got its colour from an unusual source – shellfish! The shellfish were collected and soaked in water for 24 hours. Then the robes were dipped in and pulled out. This process was repeated several times till it became the right shade.

White is perhaps the most important colour known worldwide because this is pure and it denotes peace.
