Students presented a cultural show to spread awareness on environment protection.

The 12th anniversary and valedictory function of the Student Exnora Programme was held in Sivakasi recently.

The event was organised by Sivakasi Velayutha Rastha civic Exnora which has been working among school students to promote consciousness and awareness about the need to conserve the environment.

The function was held at V.S.K.D School, Sivakasi. Various competitions emphasising a green environment on the theme “Green Living” was conducted.

Students performed traditional and modern dances. They enacted short skits depicting the concepts of wind energy, solar energy, greenery, recycling, and the need to use CFL bulbs.

Pep talk

The chief guest was Nalini Annamalaiyan. The guest speaker, L. Muralikrishnan, of Kalyani Associates, Madurai, spoke on green initiatives and motivated the students to help create a green environment for the future.

Sivakasi Velayutha Rastha civic Exnora president, Prema Paulraj, welcomed the gathering, and secretary, Latha Abiruben, delivered the annual activities report.

Various awards including Best Staff coordinator and Best Exnora Student Volunteer awards were given to motivate the students and teachers.

Jaycees School won the Best School Exnora Award.

Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College and Sri Kaliswari College won the Best College Exnora award.

The function is an annual event which attempts to spread awareness on environment protection and instil civic responsibility in students, who in turn could take it to another level by reaching more people, said Latha Abiruben.
