Beautiful memories

My cycle ride was never as happy as it was on that day. My heart leapt with joy. There was a constant smile on my face. And my mind was active. What has brought this about? Actually I was riding to school and I had tests and no leisure periods that day. But one would be so happy on such a day. Then what was the reason for my joy. The reason was amazing.

On the way to school, I was going to meet my friend Sruti, who had come home from her boarding school. Almost all our friends are studying in different schools now. My ride was so enjoyable, the ride which reminded me of my wonderful life in Std. X, those beautiful moments, of the many games we played, of the thousand fights we fought, of the times we laughed, of the topics we discussed.

Our favourite game was dumb charades. We always played that game. And we were a wonderful gang of seven. So not only the games but the endless chats were delightful. Once the chat started with a topic, each would come up with our own thoughts and we would transfer to other topics and would forget from where we started. Going back to the first topic was where the actual fun part we would rewind the topics slowly but end up with laughter.

And the most enjoyable time was the lunch hour. We would daily have seven food items on our menu — the seven items prepared by seven great chefs. We would have a long, slow, playful walk to the bathroom, talking louder, playing tug of war. And the action time in our school was the interval time — the seven would compete for a single snack box, bumping, pushing the other, snatching the snacks, rolling on floor fighting, you would have seen a real fight sequence if you have visited us during the intervals and at last all the seven would win the fight. Actually we would end up sharing even after the fight. Even a single piece of biscuit would be shared by all the seven. I would surely admit that habit of sharing developed from here.

We had an orchestra of our own. And we would organise our orchestra when classes got on boring. Sruti and I would start singing huskily and that would turn the boring class into a music class. We would sing as we were sitting beside each other and the teachers never had the fortune of hearing our beautiful songs.

Our favourite song was “Balwant kaur”, funny that we actually never knew what the meaning of the song was, but loved singing it. We loved the song so much that we named our team “Balwant Kaur” team.

Of course we enjoyed discussing the TV shows on Star Plus and this would occupy the major part of our conversation. We simply loved to hear the happenings on “Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?” And Sruti would narrate the story in a beautiful and interesting way, and gradually I found she had great talent in narration.

Exams should have been terrible during but in our case just the opposite happened, we started liking exams for we wrote exams continuously for four months with holidays to prepare, so there was time for our chats and games during the regular class. We all must thank the exams for giving us such beautiful times. All those beautiful moments flashed through my mind and finally I reached my destination. I saw my best friend, waiting for me.
