God’s gift for me

I have always wanted to have a younger sister. For a long time, till I was 10 years old, I was an only child. Loneliness used to grip me and I would sit in the room with no one to share my desires and worries with.

I have always noticed my friends quarrelling with their brothers and sisters for silly reasons and sometimes for fun. I have never understood why they did this. On such occasions, my friends would call me lucky as I did not have such “disturbances” as they termed it. But my desire for a younger sister grew day by day.

I used to tell my parents about my wish. Whenever we went out to a restaurant or other places, the sight of small children made me want a younger sister more than anything. My parents would listen to my wish to play and converse with a younger sister and smile.

I never thought that one day my desire would be fulfilled. Usually, others would wish for something that enhances their position or status in the society. It is possible for them to achieve their dreams provided their dream is strong enough to inspire them to work for it. But my dream was different. I hoped and prayed that it would come true and one day, it did.

I will never forget that day. At the hospital, my dad came to me holding a baby in his arms and said, “Here’s your baby sister.” I felt so happy. It was the most precious moment in my life.

I consider my sister as God’s gift for me. So should you. Even when you fight with your siblings, never hate them. Just have fun because you are lucky to have someone to talk to, play and fight with. It is when you don’t have something that you realise its importance in your life. Go and give your sibling a hug today and say, “You are God’s gift to me.”
