‘Clothes make the man' the statement holds true especially when you are attending an interview. Actor Akram Feroze prepared for one such interview at Lamakaan recently where he had an opportunity to interview, none other than the God. Titled An Interview with God , the monologue written, directed and enacted by Akram is a satire on the present situation and depicts the frustrations of a common man with the happenings around him.
With a look of disdain and a bottle in hand, Feroze descends on the stage dressed for the interview. In a black suit complete with shoes and a formal tie to go with his corporate avatar, Feroze looks up to the sky and says, “Give me all the strength and courage I need to interview God.”
Monologues are not easy to pull off as the spotlight is on a single actor, who has to effectively portray the emotions and hold the attention of the audience. In this aspect, Akram was not quite successful in presenting the anger, helplessness and agony of a person, who is called ‘a complete loser' by society.
“What is wrong in being a failure,” he remarks as he recalls a few incidents. He wonders whether God feels the pain and the little moments that we human beings experience it here on earth.
The narration continues as he recollects his mother who told him, “Son, do not do anything wrong, God is watching you'. ‘Then, can't you feel my pain and rush towards me when I am hurt and give me a warm hug?” he asks.
He also remembers the people who became orphans due to the war (a not-so-funny line on ‘Bush' responsible for the war), and the agony of a young father whose little girl died in a blast.
It is time for dawn when his search for God ends with his conscience. He leaves the stage by asking the audience to search for their God and see where he is living.
