British Council invites applications for drama fest

British Council of India and Kolkata Metropolitan Development in association with Manchester Metropolitan University and supported by RP Sanjiv Goenka Group will be organising an Annual Inter-School Drama Festival 2012. The theme for this year focuses on cultural relations between India and the U.K. Titled ‘India – UK: A Modern Fairy,’ applications are invited from schools to present their perspectives. ‘If India and the U.K. revisited their past, how would they rewrite it today?’ Participants are expected to write a fairytale for these two countries, in the 21st Century.

The last date for receiving scripts and summaries is July 22. On July 30, results will be announced and 45 schools will be shortlisted for the semi-finals which will be held between September 24 and 29 in New Delhi. On November 29 and 30, a theatre workshop will be conducted in Kolkata for the participants who have qualified themselves to perform at the finals. On December 1 and 2, finals will be held in Kolkata for which seven schools will be shortlisted. Three individual winners will travel to U.K. for a week-long theatre course in 2013. Seminar on student visas

British Council, Chennai, will be organising a seminar on ‘Student Visas’ on July 2 between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. for the benefit of students who have secured admission from U.K. institutions for the September/October 2012 intake under the Tier 4 of the Points Based System. An Entry Clearance Officer from the U.K. Border Agency, British Deputy High Commission, will brief on the latest student visa procedures including the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), Sponsors, Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS), Biometrics, relevant documents to be submitted and information on working while studying and after studying in the U.K. The candidates can meet the officer in person for any clarifications.
