Nrutya Kalaniketan conducted a dance ballet Srirama Katha at Shilparamam to mark Srirama Navami last week. Budding artistes of the institute performed the ballet to narrate episodes from Ramayana. The birth of Rama and brothers was narrated through the Annamayya kirtans, Ramudu… Raghavudu and Jo Achyuthananda Jo Jo Mukunda , while their boyhood days were presented with Ramadas' Antha Ramamayam . Rama and Lakshmana accompanying sage Viswamitra to protect a holy ritual by slaying demons was presented to the accompaniment of Ramabhadra Raghuveera in the background.
Sita Kalyanam was elaborately presented by the danseuses, whose narration was based on songs like Devadevam Bhaje , Sitaramula Kalyanam , Sita Kalyana Vaibhogame and Pidikita Thalambrala . Rama's exile, abduction of Sita, and the killing of Ravana were presented with apt dance numbers. The ballet ended with the coronation of Lord Rama as the emperor of Kosala.
The institute's organiser-couple Dhanasri and Srinivasa Rao choreographed the ballet. Monica and Sarayu portrayed the role of young and adolescent Rama respectively, supported by Ahana and Charishma as Lakshmana. Pranathisri, Vamsi, Charita, Divija Rao, Harshita, Nikitha, Venu Madhavi and Prasad neatly played their roles.
