The 14th annual L.V. Memorial concerts of Rasika Ranjana Sabha were held from August 14 to 21 at the Sabha's FGN hall in the city. The concerts commenced with the vocal performance by V. Venkata Nagarajan. It was different in one aspect as Venkata Nagarajan took rare kritis of the music trinity. He was ably assisted by Pudukkottai Ambikaprasad on the violin, Koppu Nagarajan on the mridangam and Tiruchi Krishnasamy on the ghatam.

Shertalai Renganatha Sharma gave an austere presentation in his absorbing voice in the next programme. Ananthakrishnan on the violin and Sivaraman on the mridangam gave able support. V. Sankaranarayanan with B. Ananathakrishnan on the violin and Kallidaikurichi Sivakumar on the mridangam provided a well-tempered recital on the next day.

Soulful rendition

It was an orthodox and a soulful recital by Jayamangala Krishnamani of Bangalore accompanied by her cousins and couple Sandhya Srinath and B. Srinath on the violin and the mridangam respectively, the following day. The rasikas were taken on a pleasant musical journey by Mambalam Sisters – Vijayalakshmi and Chitra – who were accompanied by their younger sister Hemalatha on the violin, father K.S. Rengachari on the ganjira and Kallidaikurichi K. Sivakumar on the mridangam. The well-tempered violin accompaniment by Dr. Hemalatha made the concert memorable.

Sivakumar’s thani on the mridangam was fabulous.

O.S. Thiagarajan captivated the rasikas with his line-up on the concluding day. He was accompanied by Ambikaprasad on the violin and Chennai S. Thiagarajan on the mridangam. Ambikaprasad’s violin was very much in consonance with the main artist and the mridangam player.

N. Sekar, secretary, Rasika Ranjana Sabha, introduced the artists to the audience on all the days.
