Svanubhava 2010, a six-day arts festival for students organised by Matrka and YACM was inaugurated on Monday morning by Senior Managing Director of The Hindu and president of The Music Academy, Madras , N. Murali, at the Kalakshetra Foundation.
Other guests present — representing the institutions that would host the events over the coming week — were Leela Samson, dancer and Director of Kalakshetra, Deivanai Muthuganeshan, Pricipal, Chettinad Hari Shree Vidyalayam, and Bhavani Raghunandan, Principal, Vidya Mandir, Mylapore.
The festival began with a Carnatic vocal concert by Trichur V. Ramachandran, followed by a special dance jugalbandhi by Alarmel Valli (Bharatanatyam) and Madhvi Mudgal (Odissi). The afternoon session featured a face-to-face conversation between singer P. Unnikrishnan and actor Karthik Kumar, and concluded with a tala-vadya concert led by Sangeeta Kalanidhi Dr. T.K. Murthy.
The events of the first day of the festival were webcast live to 35 countries and will continue to be streamed live on the internet, courtesy PurpleStream.
