Well-known musician O.S. Thiagarajan presented a vocal concert at the inaugural of the two-day ‘Shradhanjali’ (anniversary) of nagaswaram maestro Sheikh Chinnamoulana in Tiruchi recently. He was accompanied by T.V. Ramanujacharyalu on the violin, K.V. Prasad on the mridangam and B.S. Purushothaman on the ganjira.
Noted nagaswaram artists M.P.N. Ponnusamy and T.R. Viswanathan presented a concert on the second day. The event was organised jointly by the Dr. Chinnamoulana Memorial Trust and the Rasika Ranjana Sabha.
Nagaswaram vidwan ‘Achalapuram' S. Chinnathambi Pillai and thavil vidwan ‘Thirunangur' N. S. Ramu Pillai were honoured on the occasion and presented with a purse of Rs. 7,500 each and citations.
Two students of music – M. Arulkumar, a third year student of Sri Dhandayuthapani Swamy Nagaswaram Music School, Palani, and K. Loganathan, student of District Government Music School, Erode, -- were given a nagaswaram each in recognition of their talent.
P.K. Thiagarajan, president, Board of Trustees of Sri Ranganathaswamy Devasthanam, Srirangam, presided over the function. R. Sridharan, chief financial officer of Lakshmi Vilas Bank, Karur, Vasudevan, MD, Sangam Hotels, S. Kasim, grandson of Sheikh Chinnamoulana and managing trustee of Dr.Chinnamoulana Memorial Trust and N. Sekar, secretary, Rasika Ranjana Sabha, paid rich tributes to Chinnamoulana.
V. Gopalakrishnan, an ardent lover of Carnatic music, released a CD at the function.
