SS International Live and Magic lantern present Kalki’s magnum opus, ‘Ponniyin Selvan,’ from July 3 to 12, 6 p.m., at the Music Academy.
The production, which was staged in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai in 2014 and early 2015, will have a 70-strong cast. It has been penned by E. Kumaravel and is directed by Pravin. Sets are by Thota Tharani and costume by Preethi Athreya.
While SS International brings back ‘Kankaatchi Kaanungal,’ an exhibition of photographs and artefacts from the Chola era, a highlight is ‘Padiyingal Parungal,’ where a hardbound volume of the novel will be given away free with two tickets in the ground floor and four tickets in the balcony.
Another unique concept is ‘Ungalil Yaar Vanthiyathevan and Kunthavai,’ where seasoned photographers will click models dressed up as Vanthiyathevan and Kundavai.
For the public, a headless cardboard figure will be kept at a prominent location, where people can place their heads in the cut-out and take photos.
SS International plans to host a seminar titled ‘Medaiyil Pesungal,’ which will be chaired by Nithyashree Mahadevan (July 4) and Aruna Sairam (July 5) between 10 am and 12 noon at the Music Academy Mini hall. Two more such seminars will be hosted on July 11 and 12. Readers of the novel were asked to send a short note on which character of the novel they liked and why. Among the several entries received, a select few will be called to present their views to the audience.
The Medaiyil Pesungal show is open to public on a first-come-first-served basis.
