Children excel

Winners at the ‘Kavi Sammelan’, fancy dress and vocal competitions conducted by Art Lovers Association, Chittoor, recently, in connection with ‘Buddha Jayanti’.

Art Lovers Association, Chittoor conducted a ‘Kavi Sammelan’, a fancy dress competition and a vocal contest for patriotic songs in connection with ‘Buddha Jayanti’ celebrations, recently. In all, 35 children took part in the various competitions.

Young Pranati, Charan, Sudhakar, Soumya, Ananta Sriram, S.R.Ramya, Rajani, Srikanth and Janardhan participated in the ‘Kavi Sammelan’. They read out short poems on Gautama Buddha, in which they described Buddha as a champion of the downtrodden and recalled his thrust on vital qualities like humanity and non-violence.

The fancy dress contest turned out to be the highlight of the day, with kids dressed up as Bharat Mata, Dhoorjati Kavi, Durga Devi, Santa Claus and others.

M.Suryanarayana Raju, principal of PCR Government Junior College and scholar Ramananda Paramahamsa gave away the prizes. The Art Lovers Association founder-secretary A.Guruprasad presided over the function.

In a related event, Chittoor Zilla Rachayithala Sangham organised a meet on ‘Buddha Jayanti’ at the ZP Hall, wherein M.Mallikarjuna Reddy, a professor from Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, presented a lecture demonstration on Buddha’s teachings and his noble path.

The Sangham’s honorary president and District Revenue Officer O.Seshaiah presided.
